A lot of people and companies get caught up with how many fans, followers, and connections they have. While steadily increasing your network is important, don't judge your success on social media only by the size of your reach, but rather the quality of your connections.
As an example, would you rather have 1,000 Twitter followers for your business account with only 5% accounting for current or potential clients, or 100 Facebook fans with 80% current or potential clients? Obvious answer, right?
Instead of obsessing over the size of your network alone, focus on these metrics to determine your social media success:
- Quality of your network (are they clients, vendors, influencers or potential customers?)
- Interactions per post
- Clicks per post
- Performance of posts across networks
- Visits to your website per post
- Contacts (conversions of social media visits turning into leads/contacts)
